Dr Ramesh Kumar is one of the most experienced & renowned Nephrologist in India. With an experience of over 30+ Years, he is the first Indian to be the Member of Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in kidney diseases. He has completed his MBBS from Kurukshetra University & MD from Rohtak University. Following which he did his MRCP from Glasgow. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1992 and the Padma Bhushan in 2003 by the President of India for his pioneering, notable and continued contributions to nephrology. Dr Kumar has been instrumental in starting haemodialysis and kidney transplantation in Northern India. He is a pioneer of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) in India & has been the guiding force for creation of dialysis centres all across Northern India. Dr Kumar has the distinctiveness of starting the artificial kidney program including kidney transplantation at AIIMS, Delhi. Dr Ramesh Kumar has obtained worldwide recognition for identification of cytotoxic drug – Cyclophosphamide induced sterility. His persistent battle of 20 years for the Artificial Organ Transplant Act was passed by the Parliament in May 1994. He is an active member of various international and national nephrology societies. Dr Kumar had the distinctiveness of being personal physician to noted Indian and global political and business dignitaries. He had the privilege to work with some of the renowned doctors like Late (Dr) Mary G. McGeown at Queen’s University, N. Ireland and Sir Professor H.E. DeWardener at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, London. Dr Kumar is well-known for his notable and continued contributions towards society and invaluable research interests and achievements in the field of Renal Medicine.
