Padmaja Kumari Rani completed her basic medical degree from Rangaraya Medical College and her MS (Ophthalmology) from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. She did a post-doctoral fellowship in vitreo retinal diseases (Fellow of National Board) at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, followed by a fellowship with the International Council of Ophthalmology in Basic and Clinical Sciences Assessment. She worked as vitreo retinal consultant in Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, for six years where she was actively involved in community and epidemiological based diabetic retinopathy projects. She joined L V Prasad Eye Institute in January 2009. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and an atlas on retinal diseases. Her areas of interest are diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity
