Dr. Sunil Gurpur Kini is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in Bangalore. He specializes in hip and knee surgery that includes primary and revision (previously failed) joint replacements, arthroscopies(keyhole surgeries), sports and adult reconstruction. Dr. Kini pursued his post-graduate training at Bangalore Medical College and Research Centre and graduated in 2007. He then moved on to do his senior residency at University College of Medical Sciences where he refined his skills in complex trauma. He then chose to specialize in hip and knees surgery abroad. He worked in the joint replacement and reconstruction unit at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore first as a fellow and then as a senior registrar. This exposure also got him to perform navigation surgery and also robot-assisted joint replacement surgery which was being established at that time. He also ran independent trauma lists that included the high volume of hip fractures in the elderly. Dr. Kini subsequently obtained a sponsored arthroplasty fellowship at Orthopaedic Clinic, Ludwig Haus, Wurzburg, Germany. He had the opportunity to work with notable surgeons who specialize in revision hip and knee arthroplasty and also learn the direct anterior approach for the hip. Dr. Kini bagged the AOA accredited hip and knee fellowship at Sydney Australia. The 1 year fellowship with professor Warwick Bruce, a renowned hip and knee surgeon at Concord Repatriation General Hospital exposed him to a high volume of joint surgeries. He also picked up the patient specific instrumentation technique for knee replacements and revision hip and knee surgery. Dr. Kini was selected for the highly prestigious senior hip and knee fellowship at the renowned university college hospitals, London which consistently features amongst the top medical universities in the world. This fellowship was under the supervision of professor Fares Haddad, (director of surgery UCLH, director of the institute of sport and exercise health, chief editor of the bone and joint journal) and a highly skilled hip and knee surgeon of international fame. Dr. Kini was independently running lists that included the high volume of joint replacements and arthroscopic surgeries. This fellowship got him good exposure to highly skilled surgeries like hip resurfacing, uni-condylar knee replacement, multi-ligament knee reconstructions, hip arthroscopy and hamstring repairs. This fellowship also gave him the necessary exposure to set up practice in revision hip and knee replacements. Dr. Kini has had a thorough interest in research that has led him to publish a good volume and also present his work on numerous occasions on a global platform. He has published 23 articles till date in indexed journals, presented and co-authored 35 podium and poster presentations at international conferences.He is also a reviewer for indexed journals, most notable being bone and joint journal.
