Dr. Ravi Narayan, Senior Consultant, Paediatric Cardiologist & Interventional Cardiologist, at M.S. Ramaiah Narayana Hrudayalaya & Associate Prof at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, was inspired to take up medicine by his father – Late General Narayanan who developed the cardiology units in the Armed Forces. He was the past President of the Cardiological Society of India and one of the founding members of the Bangalore Chapter of CSI along with Dr. Shadaksharappa. Dr. Ravi Narayan graduated from CMC Vellore and then did his MD in Paediatrics from AFMC Pune. His first job was Lecturer in Paediatrics in Ramaiah Medical College from 1985-1987, followed by fellowship in Australia in Paediatric Cardiology and subsequently did his DM Cardiology from Sree Chitra Trinal Institute, Trivandrum. He has worked in St. John’s Hospital as Associate Professor in Cardiology and in Royal Hospital, Muscat, Oman as Sr. Specialist (Paediatric Cardiologist). Before joining Ramaiah Narayana Hrudayalaya, he was a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at Manipal Hospital from 2006-2011 December. His main interest is in popularizing device closures of “holes in heart” in children and making this non-surgical procedure available to the common man. To date he has done more than 1000 procedures in children and young adults. He has been awarded ‘CHILDREN HEART FOUNDATION AWARD’ by CSI in 2008 and the ‘ROTARY CLUB AWARD FOR VOCATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN MEDICINE’ in 2009. He has presented a scientific paper on Indian experience on “COCOON DEVICES” in Frankfurt in June 2012. His other interest lies in reading – fiction and non-fiction, travelling both in India and abroad.
