How Antrima 200 mg/40 mg Suspension works
Sulfamethoxazole is an antibiotic. It stops the bacteria from producing folic acid, a nutrient required for bacterial multiplication.

Expert advice for Sulfamethoxazole

Do not take further dose of taking sulfamethoxazole and consult your doctor at the first appearance of a skin rash, sore throat, fever, muscle, joints, bone pain or stiffness (arthralgia), cough, shortness of breath or jaundice.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and wear sunscreen when going out.
Drink adequate water during sulfonamide therapy.
Do not start or continue the sulfamethoxazole tablets and consult your doctor If  you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Expert advice for Trimethoprim
Trimethoprim can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
Before you take trimethoprim tablets or suspension, tell your doctor:

If you suffer from kidney problems.
If you have a deficiency (are low) in folic acid.
If you are at greater risk of high levels of potassium in your blood (hyperkalemia), e.g. the elderly or those on higher doses.
If you are also taking repaglinide (medicine for treating diabetes).

Do not take trimethoprim if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. You may be required to undergo regular blood tests if you need long-term treatment or are prone to anaemia.
