Atropine is an anticholinergic medicine which blocks the action of acetylcholine (a chemical messenger), thereby relaxing the muscles of stomach and intestines. Diphenoxylate is an opioid agonist which works by decreasing contraction of the intestines making the stools more solid and less frequent. Furazolidone is an antibiotic. It kills bacteria and other diarrhoea-causing microorganisms by damaging the DNA.
