Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation

Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.

Driving

Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is low or high. If this happens, do not drive.

Kidney
CAUTION

Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Use of Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.

Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

How Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet works
Piotab M 15 mg/500 mg Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Pioglitazone and metformin. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione which works by increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin. Metformin is a biguanide which decreases the production and absorption of sugar in your body and allows better use of existing insulin. Together, they provide better control of blood sugar.

Side Effects:

Common Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing), Sleepiness, Dryness in mouth, Abnormality of voluntary movements, Parkinsonism, Weight gain, Akathisia, Dystonia, Constipation.

Common Nausea, Loss of appetite, Altered taste, Stomach pain, Diarrhoea, Edema, Anemia, Weight gain, Respiratory tract infection, Bone fracture, Blurred vision.

Expert advice for Trifluoperazine

Inform your doctor before taking trifluoperazine if you or anyone from your family is suffering from any heart/blood-vessel disease or have a history of problems with blood clotting, or if you suffer from Parkinson’s disease (nervous system disorder characterized by tremors, rigidity and difficulty in movements), epilepsy (fits), glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye), Myasthenia gravis (abnormal weakness of muscles), loss of cognitive or memory function or changes in body temperature.
Take precautions while using trifluoperazine if you are at risk for getting a stroke (paralysis) because of heart disease, diabetes, high blood cholesterol.
Do not drive vehicle or operate heavy machinery while taking this drug as it may make you feel dizzy.
Do not consume alcohol while taking trifluoperazine as it may worsen the side effects.
Consult your doctor before taking trifluoperazine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
