Miltefosine is used in the treatment of kala-azar.

Miltefosine belongs to class of drugs called antimicrobial agent. It interacts with essential proteins and chemicals which are required for growth and survival of parasite, thereby causing death.

Headache, Nausea, Itching, Sleepiness, Decreased appetite, Abdominal pain, Diarrhoea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Increased transaminase level in blood, Increased creatinine level in blood

• Consume miltefosine with food to minimize side-effects like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. • Increase liquid intake during miltefosine therapy. • You will be monitored with laboratory blood tests to assess kidney function and liver function. • You will be regularly monitored for platelet count during therapy for visceral leishmaniasis • Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. • Use effective contraception during and for 5 months after therapy with miltefosine in order to avoid pregnancy. • Patients who are allergic to miltefosine or any of its components should not take miltefosine. • Pregnant women should not take miltefosine. • Do not administer miltefosine to the patients who have Sjögren-Larsson-Syndrome (inherited disorder characterized by skin abnormalities and neurologic abnormalities that appear in infancy)
